GO DEEPER
Our crew teamed up with the Philadelphia 76ers to create a mind-bending Pre-Game Hype Video to play beforeĀ each home game at the Wells Fargo Center.
Worked directly with the Sixer’s Content Team to conceptualize and execute the VFX heavy spot beginning with Media Day. On Media Day Director Justin Jarrett worked with Sixers Director, Ryan McDonald to direct everyone from Joel Embiid to Paul George and Tyrese Maxey while our team of VFX Artists led by Grace Southern and Kevin Crowe made sure that the highly technical shoot, which was shot on a massive 20 foot green screen was flawlessly executed.
When it came time for post-production, our team handled the extensive VFX build-out for the massive arena screen, compositing all of the players into a post-apocalyptic CGI world on a macro Liberty Bell. We had less than three weeks to complete the project in order to be ready for the first game of the season. The VFX team utilized a combination of 3D compositing programs such as Nuke, Maya, and Blender to bring the project to life. Lead Editor Nick Cornew took it from there and added his trademark quick-cutting style, while JTWO’s Sound Engineer Shaughnessy Hare designed a custom soundtrack to work in unison with the Sixers’ song selection. The Sixers Creative Team, led by Editor, Trevor Gaffney then added game footage and built out the in arena lighting and pyrotechnics to put the finishing touches on the project.
“Going into Media Day, our goal was to capture footage that would allow us to place players in a fully CGI environment performing basketball moves and interacting with each other. We knew Media Day presented unique technical challenges due to its fast-paced nature, where each player is filmed in individual eight-minute clips, but we developed a carefully choreographed plan to achieve our vision down to the smallest detail in order to pull it off.” – VFX Artist Grace Southern.
