JTWO Welcomes Cinematographer Maria Vattimo

Introducing Maria Vattimo

We are proud to announce the newest addition to our team, Maria Vattimo. Maria is the most recent graduate of our [INC]ubator Project and has been brought on as the head of  Visual Storytelling. Maria has extensive experience working as both a Director of Photography and Cinematographer on Independent Films and Commercials. She will oversee the development of our Visual Department as well as wield our newest toy, the RED Weapon 8k Helium Cine Camera.

Maria’s love for art was inspired by the never ending creativity of her childhood. At one point or another, she was involved in almost every creative outlet that exists. From painting to photography to musical instruments, and even 9 years of ballet, Maria was always encouraged to stay focused and pursue her career in the arts. However, nothing stuck quite like filmmaking and photography.

At the age of 17, Maria was awarded a certificate from the University of Pennsylvania for her work on a feature film highlighting the dangers of drinking and driving. While attending film school at Temple University, Maria began to stretch her legs and explored the freedom that music videos, fashion films, and experimental films bring. Maria has created dance films for some of Philadelphia’s dance companies that have been screened across America. At the age of 21, Maria Vattimo was invited to be an assistant cinematographer and camera operator for the feature film “AyAyAy!” directed by award-winning writer and director, Catalina Jordan Alvarez. Freshly after graduation, Maria began her internship at JTwo, and from her internship blossomed a strong relationship with the team at JTwo.

An Eye for Beauty

An integral part of Maria’s artistic journey is to find beauty in whatever she does. Not only has she helped her fellow interns with projects during their time at JTWO, but she’s also had multiple projects of her own, ranging from short films to feature films, to music videos, to fashion spots. Her artistic vision and unmatched passion is part of what makes her such an amazing addition to the JTWO team.

In Maria's Words

I’ve been a visual person my entire life. I barely spoke a word until I was two years old. However, I don’t take it as a coincidence that all I did up to that point was look around and take it all in. Even now, cameras have allowed me to continue my legacy of just taking it all in, but this time with proof.

Film is a fully immersive experience where visual, technical, musical, and emotional elements all come together for just a few fleeting moments to create something that can outlive us all. That’s why film is so hard; it takes precise coordination, collaboration, undying passion and pressure to create something really great. A film comes together in front of the camera and there’s nowhere I’d rather be than behind it.

JTwo Visits Uber for Handicap Car Launch Event

Our team partnered with Uber to document an event held at the Greenlight Hub in Philadelphia. Uber has just launched a new fleet of handicap accessible cars, and JTwo helped them document this release.

We were responsible for behind the scenes documentation including time-lapse, photography, and videography as well as a set of interviews.

Helping Fred's Footsteps Thank Their Heroes

We recently teamed up with Fred’s Footsteps once again to thank their donors. The concept was that there’s a little superhero inside of everyone, including the donors that help the families of Fred’s Footsteps!

Our production team was responsible for the script, pre-production, direction, camerawork, and post production. Check out some of our other work with Fred’s Footsteps below!

Behind the Scenes

This project was made possible through our Projects That Matter Initiative.  The Projects That Matter Initiative is a Philadelphia based video production program with the mission of  providing professional digital media services to Non-Profits at a discounted rate. Photoshoot for Victus Bats

Our team partnered with Victus to document their process and new workshop.

Victus is on the verge of releasing special edition bats, such as the Kraken bat for Gary Sanchez, and JTwo helped photograph what goes into making a bat in their new workspace. A shoot was also done for the Halo Top Bat.

Work Featured on New Story's Website

Global Community building charity organization, New Story has featured one of our latest Projects That Matter Initiative Collaborations with Redwood Gives Back on their website.

We recently travelled to Haiti with Redwood Gives Back to document their mission is to  build life-changing homes for families that have lost their homes in Haiti.  To help accomplish this goal, they have partnered with an amazing charity called New Story who has figured out a way to build simple concrete block homes with basic sanitation, running water and electricity for only $6,500. New Story has partnered with local organizations to secure land, hire local workers and build with local materials. So not only are they building homes for families, but also helping rebuild the economy and increase jobs for the Haitian people.

Every penny of the money donated through Redwood Gives Back to New Story will directly fund a new home. Even better, New Story will show us exactly which families we’ve helped once their new home has been fully constructed (which only takes a couple months). That means we’ll see the faces and know the names of the mom, dad, and kids we help.

It's Like Tinder, but Without the Sex

Hey everyone, my name is Daniel Foster. You can call me Dan for short, but then again you can’t call me, because this is a written document and you don’t have my number. Logistics aside, welcome to JTWO Films!

Although I am not Patrick Stewart, I know what you are thinking. “Please for the love of god, don’t let me mess this up!”.  Relax, take a deep breath, and pet one of these amazingly friendly puppies. Now, I have only been here for a few days, but can already tell this is the kind of environment that you learn the most in. JTWO was a glistening light in the smog that is post college. Application after application with little to no response, best describes the months of disappointment following graduation. I was starting to lose hope and felt like Tom Hanks on his stranded island, where the only thing I had was my film degree.

Tom Hanks

Luckily, JTWO took a chance and gave me an internship I couldn’t be more happy about.

You have a relaxed, but professional group of leaders, kind and helpful interns, and amazing gear that industry professionals use. Those three things will make this not only insightful, but a lot of fun! Some tips I can give in your first few days are memorize the boot camp. This tool is insanely well put together and very helpful moving forward. I was constantly looking back to ensure that i was following the proper protocol with footage and will surely reference long after my time here.

When in doubt, ask questions! You don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out everything, sometimes the simplest solution is simply asking someone.Of course, you should do some research on your own. A Lot of the things you work with have answers to questions via the internet. That cool thing that is useful for more things than your “ME” time.

Do Not Disturb

With that said, this is an internship built to give you knowledge to succeed. So don’t pull a Sherlock Holmes and over analyze something for four seasons, just ask questions! I promise they won’t think any less of you……..well maybe Jelani.

I am very eager to get rolling on some projects. The fact that you’re going to spend most your day doing something you went to school for should excite you. This is the time to make yourself stand out, so be sure to come here with your game face on.

Game Face Bro

Now let’s come full circle with the answer to your question, how is this anything like Tinder? Well……Lemme actually think and make up something. Ok, got it! You built your profile, you put yourself out there, and now you have matched with something really special. You’re going to have those few awkward first exchanges, but eventually things could turn out really sexy (As in the projects that you’re going to be working on). See, told you I could do it.

It's a Match

Now enough motivation, go kick some ass.
